Forest Food Chains

A food chain shows who eats what! It is like a chain of links where each link is a living thing. Every food chain starts with a plant. Plants use sunlight to make food — they are called 'producers' because they produce food. Then an animal eats the plant. That animal is called a 'consumer.' Then a bigger animal might eat that animal! The energy from the sunlight flows through the chain: sun gives energy to plant, plant gives energy to mouse, mouse gives energy to owl.
