The Swimming Tadpole

A tadpole looks like a tiny fish with a big head and a long wiggly tail! It does not have any legs yet. Tadpoles swim around in the water using their tails. Swish, swish, swish! They breathe through special body parts called 'gills,' just like fish do. Gills take air out of the water so the tadpole can breathe. Tadpoles spend all their time in the water — they cannot go on land yet.
