Heating Up — Solid to Liquid to Gas
When you add heat, matter changes! Take an ice cube out of the freezer. It starts as a solid. Leave it on the counter — it melts into water (a liquid). Heat that water on the stove — it boils and turns into steam (a gas). The water is still water, but it changed from solid to liquid to gas! Melting is when a solid turns into a liquid. Evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas.
