Why Are Babies Born in Spring?
Spring is the season of baby animals! Lambs, chicks, ducklings, fawns, bunnies, and kittens — SO many babies appear in spring. But why?
Nature is very smart. Animals have their babies in spring because that is when there is the MOST food available. Grass is growing, insects are hatching, flowers are blooming, and berries are forming. All this food means mama animals can eat well and make plenty of milk for their babies.
The weather is also just right — not too hot, not too cold. Baby animals are small and cannot keep themselves warm very well, so the mild spring weather is perfect for them to grow strong before the heat of summer arrives.
