Abuelo — Grandpa!
The Spanish word for grandfather or grandpa is abuelo! It sounds like ah-BWEH-loh. Abuelo is the person who tells you stories, gives you treats, and has lots of wisdom. Notice that abuelo ends in O — just like hermano and papá, it follows the boy/male pattern. Many children call their grandfather abuelito, which means little grandpa — it is a term of affection!
