Author's Attitude and Point of View Questions
At the 170+ level, LSAT RC passages often present authors with nuanced, qualified positions rather than simple agreement or disagreement. The author may: strongly advocate a position, cautiously support it while noting limitations, remain neutral while describing a debate, or critically evaluate opposing views. Questions about author's attitude require precise characterization β 'cautiously optimistic' differs from 'enthusiastic support,' and 'skeptical' differs from 'dismissive.' Identify attitude markers in the passage: hedging language ('may,' 'might,' 'could suggest'), strong language ('clearly,' 'must,' 'certainly'), and evaluative adjectives ('flawed,' 'valuable,' 'misleading'). On answer choices, eliminate options that are too extreme in either direction if the author is qualified or cautious.
