Therapy Overview by Condition
Autism spectrum disorder: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the most researched intervention, using structured reinforcement to build communication, social, and adaptive skills. Modern ABA is play-based and naturalistic—not the rigid table-work of decades past. Speech-language therapy addresses communication delays and social pragmatics. Occupational therapy builds fine motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living skills. ADHD: behavioral therapy (parent training in behavior management) is first-line for children under 6; medication plus behavioral therapy is recommended for ages 6+. Learning disabilities: specialized reading instruction (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading) for dyslexia, explicit math instruction for dyscalculia. The key for all conditions: early intervention produces dramatically better outcomes than delayed treatment.
