The Decisive Moment
Henri Cartier-Bresson defined the decisive moment as 'the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as the precise organization of forms which gives that event its proper expression.' Street photography is about anticipation—reading the scene, predicting where action will converge, and being ready. A 35mm or 50mm prime lens is traditional because it forces you close to your subjects, creating intimate compositions. Shoot in Aperture Priority or Manual mode with Auto-ISO to react quickly to changing light as you move from sun to shade.
