Maximizing Score on the Adaptive Digital PSAT
The digital PSAT uses a multistage adaptive design: each section (Math and Reading/Writing) has two modules. Module 1 is a fixed mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Your performance on Module 1 determines whether Module 2 is the 'hard' set or the 'easy' set. Critical insight: only students routed to the hard Module 2 can achieve the top score range. This means it is essential to perform strongly on Module 1 β even if you find some questions difficult. The score contribution of hard Module 2 questions is higher than those in the easy set. Strategic implication: do not skip questions in Module 1. If unsure, eliminate and guess β a wrong answer on Module 1 is costly because it may route you to the lower-scoring Module 2 path.
