What Is Flowing?
Flowing is the systematic note-taking method used by competitive debaters to track every argument made in a round. A flow sheet is divided into columns β one for each speech β so you can see how arguments progress, which points were dropped (never responded to), and where the key clashes occur. Flowing is essential because debate rounds involve dozens of arguments and responses; relying on memory alone guarantees you will miss critical points. Judges also flow, and their decision often comes down to which arguments were properly extended and which were dropped. Mastering the flow is as important as mastering argumentation itself.
