The Presenter-Slide Relationship
The most common mistake in professional presentations is facing the screen instead of the audience. Your slides are a visual aid β you are the presentation. Stand to one side of the screen, angled toward the audience. Glance at the screen briefly to confirm the correct slide is showing, then return your gaze to the audience. Use a wireless clicker to advance slides so you can move freely. When you want the audience to focus on you rather than the screen, press 'B' to blank the slide to black (works in PowerPoint and Keynote), speak your point, then resume. This technique dramatically increases attention during critical moments.
