Utah is one of the most permissive homeschool states. HB 209 (2025) eliminated the criminal background check requirement and simplified notice to a one-time notification for families withdrawing from public school (no notice required if never enrolled). No subject mandates, no testing, no reporting. Strong sports access law and dual enrollment rights. Utah Fits All Scholarship provides ESA funding.

Tips for Homeschooling in Utah

   File your notice on time: "One-time notice (letter of intent) to local school district prior to starting. Per HB 209 (2025), families who never enrolled in public school have no notice requirement; families withdrawing from public school must notify the district.". Set a calendar reminder 2 weeks before to prepare documents.

   No formal assessment is required in Utah. Consider voluntary portfolio tracking to document your child's progress for college applications.

   Join a local Utah homeschool co-op or support group. Peer connections help with curriculum sharing, field trips, and social opportunities for your learner.
