What a Right Is
A right is something you are allowed to have or do just because you are a person. Free speech lets you share your ideas. Equal treatment means people treat you the same as anyone else. Being safe at school means you can learn without harm. Using public spaces means you can enjoy places that belong to everyone. Rights belong to all people, both kids and grown-ups, every single day.
Two Sides of a Coin
Every right flips over to a responsibility, just like two sides of a coin. Free speech flips to using kind, honest words and letting others speak. Equal treatment flips to treating every person fairly. Being safe flips to following the safety rules. Using public spaces flips to taking turns and sharing. You can never keep just one side. Rights and responsibilities always travel together.
