Naming the Main Parts of My Body
Medi the friendly guide stands in a bright sunlit park, pointing to different parts of their own body and smiling at a group of curious children seated on the grass.
- Identify at least five main body parts by name: head, arms, legs, eyes, and ears.
- Explain one job that each named body part does.
- Sort body parts into two groups: parts found on the head, and parts that help you move.
- Predict which body part you would use for a given everyday action.
Key terms
- head
- The top part of your body that holds your brain.
- brain
- The body part that helps you think and learn.
- arms
- Body parts that help you reach, carry, and wave.
- legs
- Body parts that help you walk, run, and jump.
Parts On Your Head
The head is the part at the top of your body, and it holds some very important parts. Inside your head is your brain, which helps you think, remember, and learn new things, like the lesson you are doing right now. On your head you also have eyes that help you see colors and shapes, and ears that help you hear sounds like music, voices, and a barking dog. The head is a busy place full of helpful parts.
Parts That Help You Move
Some of your body parts are built to help you move around. Your arms hang down from your shoulders, and they let you reach for things, carry your backpack, wave hello, and give big hugs. Your legs are at the bottom of your body, and they are strong enough to help you walk, run, jump, and kick a ball. Without arms and legs, moving and playing would be very hard.
Body Parts Work Together
Your body parts do not work alone; they team up every single day. When you play catch, your eyes see the ball, your brain decides when to move, your legs run to the right spot, and your arms reach out to catch it. Each part has its own job, but they all work together so you can do amazing things. A good question to ask is: what does this part help me do?
Worked examples
